could anybody be so kind as to clue me in on what it means when there are exclamation points in the device manager. my cd rom drive shows as:
sony !!CE-SW!CRY330E!. it didnt used to be like this. it used to be something like:sony CRX something and with no exclamation points. i've made no driver changes or any thing like that. it happened after a system restore but then because of this i undid the restore operation but it still remains messed up. also the drive wont recognize any type of media but of course the device manager says everything is A-Okay as always. can anybody help me ? if so thanx in advance.

thats exactly what i thought but when i try to update the driver through the device manager it says "cannot continue the hardware update wizard" the wizard could not find a better match... and so on and so forth. got any ideas on what i could be doing wrong or another plan of attack? if you or anybody could help me through this i would be very appreciative. thanx.

Suggest that you download Everest from here at MG http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181 This should tell you were to get a new driver for your Sony CD and if the driver is not working, it is also a great tool for any other problems. Hope that helps

Delete the device from device manager and reboot. When windows finds the device and asks for a driver, point windows to the directory where you stored the proper driver.

Windows may even load the proper driver automatically upon reboot.

On a side note, its generally not a good idea to use your email address as your user name. You'll end up getting quite a bit more spam.
