Here's the problem. My roommate's computer broke. So he would then want to fix it right? Nah, it's all good for him, he's decided he'll just make my computer his now too. I'm not home a lot and I've made some half hearted attempts to keep him out that have since failed. Here's the thing. I don't want him to know I'm blocking him out. I want to screw with him. I don't want to bother with putting it into suspend all the time with a password login. That's too easy. Here's what I want to do... I want a way to bottleneck the speed with which my computer can use the internet. Something where maybe I could cripple it to only be able to operate in the 28-56k range, revert this bastard back to dial-up. Or.. I want to bottleneck the computers processor speed. I don't want to have to make any serious changes as it obviously needs to be turned off and on whenever I need my computer. I've tried filtering in the network hub but he just turns it off and resets it.. so that's a no go. I've also tried disabling the network connection.. he just re-enables it. So anybody have any suggestions?

Get a backbone and password lock it already. You want him to troubleshoot the system when it slows to a crawl and wind up with 2 broken computers?

+1 for harden up a bit.

If you let him take advantage of you, it will get worse.
Password it and tell him to fix his machine.
    Solved.

It's really nothing to do with having a backbone. It's just much funner to screw with him then to just block him out. Plus it's a pain having to put my computer in suspend all the time because it never seems to come out of it right.

Try this free traffic shaper for bandwidth

Add a new rule and limit the bandwidth he can use.

info only edit: installed this on Vista not knowing if it would work, but does and I really like this apps informational tools as to what traffic is coming from and to your PC, including IP info.
