    Your link to download Root Repeal is only for Linux. The file is rootrepeal.rar. The rar is useless on Windows machines.:confused

    Hi

    Rootrepeal is fine it comes in RAR format (its not a linux format) which is from RarSoft and works in Windows its a retail application but works for 30 days freely, other applications like 7Zip can uncompact RAR files for free, our Malware instructions HERE state this in uncompacting the RAR file to allow usage.

    Once uncompacted it can be used as its a normal Windows .exe

    Hope this helps clear this up and if you are running the malware clean-up read me guide then do start a new thread with your malware issue and logs.

    Thanks. But, why not have a link to the 'normal' windows .zip file which contains the .exe file? Which I did do. I found the .zip file at: http://sites.google.com/site/rootrepeal/ and automatically extracted the windows .exe file without needing to download, install and use a third party application.

    Most windows users would give up when they see the .rar file. Which requires yet another third party application to open? The .zip file can be opened/extracted by windows without another third party application to download and run.

    I don't want to download and install a trial version of yet another application, which may be as impossible to remove as the "AVG Anti-Virus" is. And, I already paid enough for the Windows OS, which can open/extract archived files in the zip format.

    Why push this third party;
    which is expecting people to pay them $29.00 for a function Windows can already accomplish?:confused

    Thanks

    Hi

    Maybe we could add the zip file to the list of downloads, actually I did think we had that option but it may have been overlooked in an update, I will mention this to the owners of the site who are responsible for the application listed.

    However in some instances malware can disable the zip functionality as well as other functionality in Windows so an alternative is needed and I did supply a free option right after the quoted post of mine you used,

    But I will give pass on your suggestion and thanks for it.

    1: Not true. RAR is a common compression like zip and 7z.

    2: For malware removal the rar format can help with people having trouble opening zip and exe files.

    This tool, like most rootkit tools, are for advanced users to assist in removing difficult infections. I can toss in a seperate link for the zip, but no one ever reads the descriptions :)
