I need extra USB ports so I got this PCIe card. I was instructed to install the driver before installing the card. I did. When windows 7 started it installed the driver, but when I go into the device manager I am getting a yellow(!) under the USB controllers section. It is listed as Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller. The device status is reporting ... "The device cannot start. (Code 10).

I have tried several different things. Reinstalling the driver. Putting the card in a different PCIe slot. Resetting the CMOS. The only thing I saw in the BIOS about the PCIe was under the Settings\Advance\PCI Subsystem Settings ... PCIe Slot1 Lanes Config. (x16) there is a second option of x4+x4+x4+x4 ... not sure what that means ... it is set for x16. There is something about a PCIe Lane Config. ... MSI M.2 xander/ MSI M.2 xpander-z/ other M.2 PCIe storage card change this item to x4+x4+x4+x4 when using MSI M.2 xpander-zo_O:rolleyes:

Any ideas how to get this card to start?:(

Do a "cold" restart and see what happens. By cold, that means to normally shutdown Windows and power off the computer, but then you need to unplug the computer from the wall (of, if your PSU has one, flip the master power switch on the back of the PSU to "0" or off). Wait 10 to 15 seconds then boot up again. If it still does not work, you may have to start all over again by uninstalling the drivers shutting down to that "cold" state, remove the card, boot normally. Then install it again (and again, from the "cold" state).

The ATX Form Factor standard requires all ATX compliant power supplies supply +5Vsb voltages to several points on the motherboard when the computer is simply shutdown (which is actually a standby state). Only by pulling the wall plug (or flipping that switch) are all voltages removed.

Note when removing or installing new hardware (except via USB ports) it should always be done in that "cold" state.

Did the cold state several times. I keep getting the message that the driver was not successfully installed and to contact the device manufacturer for assistance.o_O

Yes ... the Ryzen computer is the one having the problem.

If that card is not going to work can anyone recommend a card that will work with my rig?

In which case the reviews dated February 13 2019, December 27 2018 and June 19 2018 (especially) amongst others seem to indicate that there is some serious conflict.

May I ask why do you particularly want a USB 3.0 addon card? why not just get a powered USB 3.0 hub?

I would also avoid any addon card with the Renesas uPD720201 chipset which the Rosewill card has that's for sure

I tried a USB hub by Anker a 10 port hub but it would not work in a 3.0 port only a 2.0 so I returned it. I am having problems with devices attach to the hub not showing up in the device and printers so I figured a card would be better. Is there a card out there that will work for me?

Did a little bit of searching and found this other thread

    https://hardforum.com/threads/usb-3-0-pci-express-card-expansion-card-compatible-with-ryzen.1964966/

Oddly, the poster of that thread links to your addon card

I have a feeling that you will need to read lots of reviews on Amazon and Newegg to find what you need.

I am surprised that the Anker USB3.0 hub had issues, makes me fleetingly wonder whether you have issues with the USB3.0 driver installed on your rig since unlike USB2.0 it is not natively supported but requires additional drivers to make it work.

May I also ask, when you connect a USB3.0 device straight into a USB3.0 port on the motherboard header, it is recognised as USB3.0 and works at USB3.0 speeds.

USBDeviceTree is a great program for determining this if you don't already use it.

One last thing is your rig running USB3.0 on UASP or BOT protocol

I would argue that the speed difference from my real live tests is nowhere near what is indicated by the link above

    Good Luck

I got the hub today and I'll be dang that is doesn't work. It caused my system to crash twice ....

I see the port lights come on when the BIOS flashes during boot up but when windows opens ... nothing.
It is a Anker 10 port hub

Talked with tech support about the hub. Apparently it is not compatible with my system. I have no idea why.o_O:rolleyes:

Well the Anker seemingly uses the Via VL812-B2 Chipset.

Must admit I was more optimistic that this hub would work. Surprised they provided no reason but clearly from your experience of this product, chipset conflict would most likely be their response.

My only other suggestion would be that whatever HW you decide to try next make sure that you call their tech support and ask them if it's compatible prior to purchase.
