    Hi there,

Soo.. i need some help and every one says your the ones to ask.
In my home we have comcast internet. We have been using the Linksys befw11s4 router for some time with it.. However Recently we cant access things that we used to .
    examples..

yahoo im (it just hangs on Sign in)
    Emails (emails hoste on Echothefaith.com)
Email Host website (the host provider ezysitehosting.com also times outs)
Going to the website's above i get

    "NETWORK TIME OUT"
"Server is taking to long to respond"

I get this with or with out the firewall on...

    Now,

Here is why i think its the router...
When i unplug the router and run the modem cable right to my pc.. it works fine..

i was told to ping the sites and this is what i get....

    >ping echothefaith.com -f -l 1466

Pinging echothefaith.com [75.126.65.69] with 1466 bytes of data:
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.

    Ping statistics for 75.126.65.69:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

i just dont know what else to do, and we really need the wireless.

Look for the option dont fragment packets and uncheck it from your router interface.

Well im not sure if i found what you mean.. so please let me know ...

    under advanced i found this...

    Beacon Interval: 100 (msec, range: 1~65535, *100)

    RTS Threshold: 2432 (range: 256~2432, *2432)

    Fragmentation
Threshold: 2346 (range: 256~2346, *2346, even number only)

    DTIM Interval: 3 (range: 1~65535, *3)

but i dont see any thing about turning it off..
The only other thing i can think of is on the first page there is
the MTU which has an Enable and Disable switch..

I don't think its related to the fragmentation issue, but:

Have you looked at the DNS information set on the router and your computer?
Are they set to what your ISP has given you? You could ring your ISP and ask for their 'alternate' DNS server info and see if that helps?
If not you could try OpenDNS if you can cope with the yahoo powered search results
    http://www.opendns.com/

Just an idea, as I was having a hell of a time getting to some sites using my ISP's DNS servers, switched to openDNS then it was not a problem.
Although, one thing I found yesterday is I couldn't get to a different site, switched back to my ISP's DNS and I could access it.
    Weird,
it seems not all DNS servers are created equal.

let me know if that helps or you need more clarification...

    Hi cpnoob,

these home Linksys routers are notorious for stopping data traffic. After my third one, I bought a Dlink dir-615 and have had no troubles for the last 2 years.

The same problem with the linksys would also occur in our QA test lab at work.

    1. Power off all computers.
    2. press the reset button on the back or bottom of the linksys.
    3. once the linksys lights are steady green again, unplug the linksys power cord.
    4. plug it back in and wait for the lights to go steady green again.
    5. power on the computers.

If no go on the above, access the linksys router settings and activate the option to reset the router back to factory default. (make sure you have the necessary connection details from your ISP so you can re-enter them or config the router appropriately for dhcp assignment.)

Once the problem is resolved, go to the linksys web site and get the latest update firmware file for the model of the linksys. access the router settings and find the option to update the firmware with the file downloaded.

btw, the ping packet size 1466 was too high for Windows (not the router or sites) to process because Windows relies on the size of the mtu when sending packets and 1466 is too high based off the existing default value of the mtu registry setting.

    *the penny drops*
That must've been what was happening with mine a year or so back, I ended up flashing the firmware with the offering from dd-wrt and haven't looked back since.
    Cheers for the info
