    Hello super geniuses,

Please don't beat me if this is already posted. I've already learned alot on this site. I plan infrastructure investments but am not very technical. I'm surprised at the tech things I can do with your guidance on this site so far.

My boyfriend is proficient in just about anything technical. We're currently on the down slope of the 'roller coaster.' He gave me and set up my netgear router. Being a LAN connection I have concerns with the setup. Can he watch what I am doing as it passes over the LAN since he knows the setup?

I used to use Outlook, migrated to Thunderbird. But I am pretty sure he read my email when I used Outlook-he'd bring up things I said to my friends and never him. He's astute at remote sniffing/watching. I really doubt he's spending much time watching what I do/where I go. He's too self-absorbed in his own pursuits. But, if he is, how do I stop it? He wouldn't access my PC-just snoop to see what passes thru the line.

    Thank you :)

Unless he has planted a Trojan on your machine to watch what you are doing, or is close by to "Sniff" your packets on your Wifi Connection, that would be questionable.

I would though go in and change the security for the WEP or WPA key to a different one that he set it as, along with the router password that only you would know.

Also maybe change your log in password for WinXP to a different one, along with your Yahoo account and other items that he may know about.

The list can go on, but the basic step is updating the information for security that he or she may know to secure your privacy.

You can sniff packets on any wired or unwired connect by the way.

In order to Sniff packets on a wired connection, you have to physically be connected.

Thank you for all your help.

I did change all my passwords to my accounts awhile ago. Haven't had any comments that he may be reading my sent mail since I got Thunderbird and I changed all my passwords there.

    It is a wireless LAN.

I would though go in and change the security for the WEP or WPA key to a different one that he set it as, along with the router password that only you would know.
-----how do I do this? I think before I typed in the ISP address and got to the settings from there.....

    Thanks again for helping.

If you double click on the Network Icon in the TaskBar, then click on the Properties tab, it should show a IP of 192.168.x.x (could be 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.15.1 depending on manufacturer of Router).
