Router firewall question

Hello,I am n newby to this forum and after 2 years of having a computer,I still am a newby. My kids know more than I do! I use mine basicly for web surfing,E-mail,and for my photos.
My question is about Firewalls. I had a software firewall by Panda,and it semed to work fine but made the computer run slow. I was thinking of a router firewall. Any info would be appricated. Thanks.

 

How are you connected to the net now? a router will block most incoming traffic but wont stop any programs on your computer from accessing the outside. Any router will do but some have more options etc. What kind of info are you looking for specific models?

 

Microsoft Xp has a firewall built into it that doesn't slow it down
