    Hi,

I have a D-Link DI-514 wireless router. Networking a desktop, which is hardwired to router and a laptop which uses wireless connection. All is well when I just use the desktop as far as connecting to internet (wireless adapter disabled on laptop), however, when laptop is connected the router kind of freezez and won't let me connect to internet all of a sudden. I have to physically unplug power to cable modem, router and Vonage adapter, wait a few minutes and plug them in again for it to work. The circle continues...

I thought it had to do with DHCP and the way it assigns IPs - maybe it got confused? I disabled DHCP and assigned static local IPs for the two computers, but same problem occurs.

Getting really frustrated, especially since it cuts out phone service as well. Could Vonage adapter affect this as well? I had the problem before though...

I've been trying to decipher the logs from router but don't really understand what the messages mean. Can someone please point me the right direction. Haven't called D-Link yet - I know I'll sit on hold forever...

    Thanks, CaptFred

    Hello CaptFred,
Went to DLink support and troubleshooting for your model, this is what they suggested -

    Quote
    Router Locks up
The following are possibilities why you router is locking up:

    • A large amount of traffic may lock the router up. Disable any broadcast protocols or unused protocols such as NetBEUI and IPX/SPX.

    • Disable UPnP(TM) if not being used on both your computer (ME or XP) and on the router (Tools - Misc).

    • Check the log on your router. Is it showing a large amount of traffic? If coming from 1 IP address, you may want to use the IP Filter to block that user.

    • Check the log settings and uncheck some of the items the router will report.

    • Check your firewall and virtual server settings on the router. Too many may degrade performance of the router.

    • Upgrade firmware at http://support.dlink.com/downloads. If you have the latest version, flash it again.

    • Perform a hard reset on the router and reconfigure. With the unit powered on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds. Release and wait about 20 seconds. DO NOT power off while holding the reset button.

If the router continues to lock up, especially more than once a day, then please return to point of purchase or contact our RMA department.

If you were having the problem before the Vonage adapter was added, I'd try these procedures first.
Hope that points you in the right direction.:)
