alright i got a Linksys wrt54gs and its brand new , right now it wired to this computer. It been disconecting steady .. just randomly losing internet , so i have to unplug it wait like 10 seconds and then it will reconnect. If i check my linksys easy advisor when it disconects it says i have set up the router again but if i check it when its connected it says everything is fine.

GOD i just bought this router and its been giving me nothing but trouble -_-

I tend to think at the physical layer, have you tried a different cable from the computer to the router?

Check Linksys for a newer firmware. Is it happening with any application imparticular? IE, torrents, etc...
Check dd-wrt and see if it has a compatible firmware - I find it more stable than most Linksys.

The Linksys firmware should be completely stable out of the box. Reflashing it may cure a bad flash in the first place, but the wrt54gs is a very mature router.

DD-WRT isn't something I would recommend to any novice.

alright well its been working good so far now , but i randomly lost internet about 5minutes ago and i unplug and replug the modem and then it worked. Ive been noticing that my modem hasnt been all that great lately.. maybe thats the root of the problem?

Yesterday im sure it was my router because when i direct plugged it tothe computer it connected fine.

*ill see if i get any further problems.. maybe even get a new modem

Have you read the router manual?
I have a linksys WRT54G that has worked flawlessly for more than 3 years. Before I made any changes, I went thru the manual and printed out sections where I thought I may need to make changes. On the print outs, I write what the default is and then what I changed it to and when. If I find I have problems, I go back and undo the change.

don't change anything until you understand what each setting does.

If you have a cordless phone operating at 2.4GHz, that can cause problems with a wireless router. Microwaves can also have an affect on wireless.

Your broadband ISP is set up that your service runs for one computer; the one connected to the modem when you first got the service. This computer has a machine address (MAC). You clone this MAC into the router so the modem sees all computers connected to the router with the same address - the MAC of the first computer. Let it blank and I believe only one computer will be able to receive data from the www.

alright i give the manual a read , this computer is currently wired to the router so its not a wireless issue.

When i lose the internet for more then 10 seconds , if i unplug and replug my router its seems to work again.

You need to establish if the problem lies in the router or the DSL feed or the pc.

You can't test the DSL feed but you can test the router and pc by substitution. Can you borrow one, or connect your to someone elses DSL?

    Ditto the pc.

It could be a faulty router I find Netgear the most reliable, and often the fix is simply to replace Linksys. D-link etc with Netgear.

well lets say next time it disconects , if i direct plug it in to my pc and not through the router .. if it connects wouldnt that mean the problem lies in the router?

    I don't understand.

Presumably the 'internet' rj45 socket on the Linksys is connected to the DSL source is this cable or a modem?
    If so which?

Is the Linksys a replacement or the first time you have connected to this DSL source?

    ok my setup is like

    [Modem]------------[router]-------[pc]

and i just realised there a usb going from my modem to my pc directly.. if i unplug it doesnt do anything to the internet.. whats it for? do i need it?

This is the first time ive had a router.. its not a replacement.
