I had to reinstall Windows XP on my aunt's Dell Inspiron 530. Every time I try to use the resource CD to install/configure the router, It goes to the BSOD about halfway through. I'm about to pull my hair out, I don't know what to do!

It is a Netgear Wireless-G Router
    WGR614v9

Also, I tried to update the firmware, but it is in .chk and my computer keeps saying it can't open it.

Hi JessiBug93 and welcome to MGs.
You really don't need to set up the router again. Just plug in an ethernet cable or access it wirelessly and you should be good to go.
However, here is some information to look at. If you changed any passwords or usernames in the original router set up, you will still have to use those. If you don't have that information, you can reset the router to factory default condition. (That procedure is listed in the manual below also.)

Netgear set up link - http://support.netgear.com/app/answ...2LzEvdGltZS8xMzM3Njc4Nzg0L3NpZC8tTDhOc0tZaw==

Netgear Manual (pdf format) - http://support.netgear.com/ci/fattach/get/27/1239127755/redirect/1/filename/WGR614v9_UM_14May08.pdf

Upgrading firmware of router procedure - Page 6-7 of the manual (Sheet 87 of 116 of pdf)

You don't open the file for the firmware on your computer, you let the router open it as discussed in the procedure listed above.
    Good Luck.

Thank you for replying so quickly. I've tried to just connect and go, but it doesn't work. When I try to access it from my laptop, it give me the no internet access message.

Try power cycling your entire network.
Shut down all computers, router and modem.
Power on the network in sequence allowing each unit to connect completely before powering up the next. Start with the modem, then the router then the computers.
