I know that you are supposed to type in 192.168.1.1 in your browser and it should take you to your router screen. but this doesnt work for me. I am trying to set up a static ip for port forwarding (i am getting into torrents). but i cannot access my router. I am using I.E. 7 and running Vista. It is a month old comp and the only other thing its hooked up to is my x-box. I havent messed with anything up to this point so i dont know why it isnt working.

What model and version of router?
If you change it back to connect automatically, can you access set-up then?

I have a Linksys WRT54G. And no I cannot, I never took it off of auto connect because I knew it would be pointless if I could not access the router.

You can try a couple of things.
Power down everything and bring it back up in sequence.
Do an ipconfig from the command line to see if by chance the router's IP address has changed. (Start > Run > cmd then ipconfig /all. Look for the gateway address.)

My last suggestion would be a hard reset to factory default condition.
All your settings would have to be re-entered. Make sure you have all your ISP info before you do this.
Someone else may have another suggestion before you do a hard reset.
