    Hi,
Thanks once again for any help. I have a Netgear Router WGT624 v2 its been working fine for a few months and for no reason bogged out again. This happen a few months ago but after reinstalling it I was able to get it up and running again, but this time I'm not making any progress and have tried about 10 times now.

The router is set up thru a cable DSL to my desktop so that the dell wireless laptop can access the Internet. At this point I'm shutting everything off, then turning on the cable modem for 2 minutes then I'm turning on the router for 30 seconds and then the computer. Before I even turn on the computer though I know its not going to work as the Internet port light is not lighting up on the router and the online light on the cable modem isn't lighting up.

I have changed this around several times now so I think I'm right in that the Ethernet cable coming from my PC goes into one of the ports and the Ethernet cable coming from the cable modem goes into the Ethernet port. Right?

The last time this router bogged out I tried to do a firm upgrade but there wasn't any. Is it possible the router just died?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Jill

if it disconnected while doing a firmware upgrade it could have died. and by the way you are right about the router.the cable from the pc goes into one of the 4 ethernet ports and the cable coming from your modem goes into the internet port on your router. if you know all your settings and how to set things up on your router then you could give the reset button a try but u will have to set all the settings again.

    Hi Obener,
I wanted to thank you for your reply. I did reset the Router but still No luck. So as time went on last night I started to suspect the Ethernet cable may be the cause so tried a spare and that is what the problem turned out to be. Not sure how it could have gone bad but it did.

    Thanks again,
    Jill

good to hear that it works now. the causes could be someone pulling the cable which causes it to stretch or go through places it could be cut. the other cause could be then end point where u plug the rj45 cable in the cables could get loose inside and so on.cables are not perfect, things can happen to them too lol
