Router loses connection when downloading

Whenever i use a third party program to download such as limewire or dc++, i lose my connection with my router. the downloads will start normally, with healthy speed, then they will gradually get slower and slower until finally i completely lose my connection to the router. i know it my router and not my modem because i can reset my router to reconnect to the internet.

any ideas? its a linksys WRT54G with firmware v3.03.1

 

nevermind the issue seems to have been resolved with a firmware update
