I'm connecting to a friend's router and everything's fine until I put my computer to sleep for the night or just transport it for the day. When I do that, the status says "Connected" and the level of connection (usually Very Good) but I have no internet connection. I then have to turn my computer off to get it to work again. Sometimes FF won't work, but IE will, sometimes my TB will work and no Web browsers will...it's like a crap shoot. Any suggestions on how to make this a more stable connection? Right now, it's an unsecured connection - so I don't need a password or WEP number at all. Don't know what kind of router she uses...can ask that if I need to.

    Thanks! Stephanie

Maybe, your friends' router might have lease time restriction or "disconnect if idle for xxx minutes". Make the lease time "forever", disable idle disconnection. Or simply, you could disconnect and reconnect yourself from Network settings - this, I'm pretty sure, will reset you and reconnect you without restarting pc.
Also, do you connect your pc to any other router/network when you're not connected to your friends? If then, your tcp/ip settings would have to be reset. make a batch file with "ipconfig /renew" and save it on your desktop. double click when you want to come back on line... just a suggestion.

Second question ....are you connecting with wireless? Or are you hardwired to the router ....?

After days of frustration and doing your suggestions, my friend told me that her DSL is at the borderline of where it can reach (ie. it has a span of 50,000 miles and she's right on the 50,000 miles mark - she wasn't quite sure of the number) and so she gets spotty connection...which is why sometimes I can get on and sometimes I can't. I don't think there's much I can do with this information, is there? Thanks for your advice and help!!!
