I purchased a Linksys wireless router (WRT300N) the other day, but after putting in the setup CD and doing all the steps it fails at the end bringing up that error window that asks if I want to send an error report and tells me that the router couldn't be detected.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with my modem or what, it's starting to confuse me since I've tried like 10 times.

Welcome to Major Geeks. Routers generally don't require any software or drivers. Every router I have ever used (and there's been alot) didn't require any software. Some come with "setup" discs but they tend to be more of a PITA than anything. Try uninstalling the software through Add/Remove Programs. Take a look closely at the back of the router. There should be a tiny little hole labeled Reset. Restart your PC after removing the software, while the PC is restarting, get a straightened out paper clip and poke the Reset swtich, hold it in for at least 8 seconds while the PC is rebooting. Then release it, let Windows load to the desktop. Wait a minute or two for the router to settle down and wait for all the lights to lock in. Then just try to go online. If that doesn't work, then we may have to log in to the router. Let us know how it goes and we'll go from there. If trying to use the router with a wireless connection, wait for the balloon message by the clock (WinXP) to some up saying that a wireless network has been found. Click the balloon and a list of available networks will come up. Highlight yours, click connect, wait for it to 'acquire a network address', close the window and start surfing... If you think the modem may be bad, plug the PC directly into it, reboot, and see if you can go online. If you can, then the modem is fine.

Your PC has a wireless card right?

    Set up your router manually

I tried resetting it during restart but it didn't do anything. And setting it up just to the PC alone just leaves me without internet.

Not sure, but could it be that my modem is connected through the USB instead of the Ethernet? USB is the only way I can get it to connect, since it aways says cannot make a connection with the Ethernet cable for some reason.
