Hello, I am currently having a problem with my router. I do not know that much about computers, so please bare with me :( If I am missing any essential information, please tell me. I will try to reply as soon as possible.

    Router: Linksys BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Version 4

The problem is I have four computers using Windows XP networked, and connected to router. Everything was working fine, internet was up, until I decided update the firmware Linksys BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Version 4. I like to keep my things updated, unfortunately this time I screwed up big time.

After I updated the firmware, I believe all internet connections were lost on all four computers. Then I tried a hard reset, unplugged all cables, restarted. Nothing worked. Then on all the computers, I couldn't ping the router. Most of the time 100% all were lost, somtimes it would be 75% lost. I couldn't connect to the router's config page using my internet explorer. Couldn't get the default gateway address. I don't know what's wrong :( Only thing I can think of is, router is broken or something.

The solution I tried, I contacted Linksys support. I tried everything they told me to do on Live Chat. They said I probably updated the firmware with the wrong version. That would completely destroy the router permanently. Something about different codings. Can it really destroy a router by just updating the wrong firmware? I really do not understand.

So, if anyone have any thoughts on this problem, please help me :) It could save me the money to buy another router. I would really appreicate it.

    Thanks, hiyooo.

I usually keep my clothes on when diagnosing computer problems, thank you.

Usually when you flash router firmware, all settings you may have made to the config are lost, including the username and password. If you can't get in with the factory defaults nor the ones you may have changed them to yourself, you may indeed be looking at a new router. Were it me I would make sure I had the correct firmware for the specific version of the router, and flash it again with that-- whether you had the correct one before or not, you never know. Maybe even try flashing it back to the original version that was working before you attempted the new one, if it's available from the manufacturer's website.

    Witty funny :p

Hmmm, after reseting the router. The user/pass for me is blank/admin, but the problem is I can't even get the login screen. Page does not exist T_T

One question though, how can I flash it back to the original version that was working? After I updated it. Sorry, I do not know anything :( If it's the reset button? I tried that.

Thanks for the reply. I really appreicate it, TheDoug.

    Thanks, hiyooo.

If you had to log in to the router to do the firmware upgrade, and you aren't able to even do that, I guess it's probably new router time.

Do the linksys routers allow telnet from internal IP's? That might be a way to get in but I am used to cisco stuff.

o_O, not sure. I hate linksys now! My dad's gonna kill me he doesn't know I broke the router! Using a hub as a replacement now hehe.

Anyone suggestions for a new router? Something less sophisticated for a beginner to use :O

    Thanks again, hiyooo.
