I have just bought me a new router. Its a D-Link AirPlus G.

I just set it all up and was working fine, I have got a laptop with a 80211g ZDwlan USB adapter. And my desktop is connected via Ethernet wire. My deskto is working fine, and so was my laptop till a minute ago.

I went into the config with my desktop and just changed the password to access the config, nothing else.

Now I get limited or no connectivity message on my laptop! Im lost as to what to do as ive never had a router before.

Ive tried turning everything off and on, and ive tried clicking the repair button to no avail.

Please help before my lappy goes out the window rolleyes

edit - Forgot to say there is an 80% signal strength

I'm not familiar with Euro specs on routers, but in the US, we have 11 channels to try. If it worked before, and now it doesn't, there is an excellent chance the channel its on sucks. Try a different one. Heck, try all of em :D

Ive tried a few more of these but still no joy. It seems to be connecting ok, but sorta stops at the part which says Aquiring Network Address.

The signal strength is good and seems to be stable confused

if the laptop is old enough, the driver implementation of WPA may suck, if thats what you are using. Turn off encryption. If it works, then just try WEP.

Thanks loads it works a treat

It works now without any protection. I would leave it like that, but the neighbours have WiFi connections and I dont want to leave my PC open to attack.

Coud you please tel me what i should be putting into the WEP settings on config + on my Lappy?

In config there is the following :-

    Security - WEP(like you advised)

WEP Encryption - should I have 64-128 bit? the neighbours are not PC wizards so will 64 do?

Key mode - ASCII or HEX ?

WEP Key 1 - Just any password here? Do I have to use all 4?
    WEP Key 2 -
    WEP Key 3
    -
    WEP Key 4
    -

    Thanks again :)

64 should be fine unless if u want more encoding which 128 is better

keymode u can put it in hex

wep k1,k2,k3,k4 is 4 different passkeys being genereated from one password lets say for example

dog can be expressed in 4 different ways

    A3SAD3234SD2V45
    F3263FD435432FW
    UJR345R2F2352F23
    234F2345232RF2R2

    got it?

I'm a n00b in routers but did you enter the code to your laptop? Best way is with a USB stick as typing in a 24 character code never worked for me. Sorry, if you already did this.
