Router quaetion

Hi there, hope this is the right forum for my questions.

I just connected in a Linksys BEFSR41 router to my comp. I got it from a co-worker with no box and no instructions (except verbal). It seems to be working well. I will shortly be adding my sons comp to the router as well. This is the first time his comp will be having internet access.

My comp has zone alarm and AVG antivirus installed for obvious reasons. If both comps will be accessing the internet thru the router, should I have to install zone alarm and avg on my sons comp as well, or does the router now protect us. I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt, but was concerned if they will conflict or somesuch.

AVG Yes, firewall = zonealarm, upto you but the router does function as a basic firewall.

 

The router should have a built in firewall and isn't amazingly good, but the antivirus and firewall you have installed is only for your computer so you will need to install them both on your son's. Luckily there are both free versions of these softwares.
