I have a Not wireless-router (a wired router?). Whenever I leave an active exchange with the internet for around a couple of minutes, I have to wait a long time before the internet connection kicks back in. I think this is an energy- conserving setting somewhere. The only annoying thing is that it is just longer than what it takes to load a webpage (like Google), so I usually have to do a refresh every time I want to get back going. There are two computers on the router. The second computer doesn't have this problem. The problem occurs whether the second computer is turned on or off, but it does not occur if the second computer is actively using the internet. We've tried switching around the cables on the router to see if it is due to a priority problem, but it didn't change the problem.
    Thanks!

You want to know my apps? (errr...) You mean like Outlook Express, AVG, Trojancheck, Sygate, unlocker, Poptray, and probably Spyware Blaster. Add to that additionally, sometimes, ... Office, Notepad, graphics or photo software. It doesn't seem to matter what is running, but I do notice if I keep MG open, there must be enough background stimulation going on to keep the connection live. I can't remember what it does if I have just a google search open. I'll try that. The two e-mail programs (Poptray and OE) don't keep it open.
    Thanks.

Let me tell you when I started using AOL Active Virus Shield, by Kaspersky. My family's pc had a weird symptom that has never occured to my main rig. Firefox would fail to load any startup webpage when it ran. Had to refresh it. After a while, i found out the only change to the pc was AOL AVS. After playing with it, I found there is network drive & email protection. I turned 'em off, & the FF issue has been gone. I suspect the AV didn't give FF enough time to load the page while the AV was scanning for virus on the page. The family pc is much slower than mine. I never saw this on my pc though.

Maybe there's a similiar thing going on with your pc: maybe it's slower than the other & there's some app scanning the webpages for malware. I'd turn that specific protection off. Just file scan is enough.
