So here's the deal...My roommates and I got internet hooked up and I brought an old router from home down here. After hooking up the router, the internet on my PC worked as well as for the other PC but not for the laptop.

I took the old router back home and got a new one, a D-Link (DI-604) router and hooked it up. My internet works fine and the internet on the laptop works fine, but now it won't work on the other PC. All systems are XP.

When trying to repair the connection on my roommates PC I get a message saying "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing Your IP Address"

    Please help, thanks.

maybe its a fault with one of the cables that you used first on the laptop and then on the pc? you can try switching the cables around to see if this is the case.

We've tried switching the cables around. Once we found the laptop to work we tried it with 3 ethernet cables total. I've tried each of the three ethernet cables with the PC also and it won't work.

So when we went to network connections at first the computer said limited connectivity or whatever. So I went into the properties of the TCP/IP thing and selected "Use the following IP address" and after figuring out that my IP address is 192.168.0.100 and the laptop is .101 I typed in .102 and copied the other crap from my computer. The internet then connected but was firewalled. So she removed all of her antivirus/spyware and then it said that it was connected...but the internet still didn't work??????

I think I may have found something for you ;-)
I believe I am having the same issue with one of my PCs. It's weird because it connects fine via the wireless connection, but once I try to plug a network cable to it, it has "limited connectivity" to a hard wired resource. Give this a try, hope it works!
