Hey there. Seen as though I am getting a new computer , I thought I might as well invest in some new games.

Seen as though im a massive fan of both the RTS and RPG genre , well , mainly the competitive aspect of RTS , and the leveling out of this world aspect of RPG's. I was hoping you Majorgeeks could help me out and recommend me some games.

New or old games do not matter , anything , as long as its not a waste of time.

Currently i've thought about buying WoW , FF online and Oblivion , and now im looking for really good multiplayer rpg's and mostly single player RPGs to enjoy over the winter when I cant skate. So , lead the way with your brilliant answers.

RTS- Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 'Dark Crusade'

Can be purchased as a trilogy with:
    Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War
    &
Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 'Winter Assault'

The other two are above average (worthwhile having if you pick them up bundled with Dark Crusade)

Dark Crusade is one of my all time favorites :)

Diablo 2 And Starcraft. Both are fairly old so they will be cheap and the provide months if not years of entertainment. Diablo 2 is a RPG and Starcraft is an RTS. Both are by Blizzard entertainment. Starcraft is a must. There is so many different things to do and so many different user made maps that theres always a new one to try. They also have mini RPG maps.

for RTS, go for any of the Command and Conquer series, especially the newest one. Also, Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes. Age of Empires 3 is pretty fun too

Im a massive blizzard fan , so naturallly I have played both of these 'till the end of the earth , and as for starcraft , i've come top in a few multinational ladders. Bar the Koreans ^^

Not the most graphically intensive game, but one I've had a hell of a lot of fun with is called Battle For Wesnoth. The price is right. It's free. :)

are u guys kidding me? Im sure all those games listed above are top notch, but i cannot believe the fact that no one mentioned World in Conflict for the RTS, good single player story telling with fantastic game play for both single player and multiplayer.

for RPG u should try Sword Of the New World, its really unique and for ppl who dont have too much time, you can "exploit" the character's defense mode as a bot.

I noticed you commented on trying WoW and maybe FF Online.

Skip both and play Lord of the Rings Online instead. If you are going to pay to play then only two fantasy style games come to mind; LOTRO and WoW. I dislike WoW myself but many love it. LOTRO is amazing in every way.

Also EVE Online is another one of the very best MMO's on the market.

In any case FF Online is a complete waste of time.

On the RTS side of things, I'd second the recommendations of COMMAND AND CONQUER 3, and WORLD IN CONFLICT.

I'd also recommend MEDIEVAL 2: TOTAL WAR. Like the previous games in the TOTAL WAR series it combines deep, turn based strategy (which even features some RPG elements) with real-time combat.

Multiplayer isn't great. But the SP "grand campaign" is endlessly replayable. I've sunk far too many hours into this in the last year, and still feel I've only scratched the surface. There's also an expansion out which I haven't bought yet, but looks great as well.

Sacred, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander. All great games. Star Wars Galactic Battleground is great, as are the Fallout games.

Are you excited about the new one? I think it looks pretty amazing.

Only thing that worries me is that although it will be a cross platform release, it's being optimized for the 360. Hope that doesn't mean PC users will be stuck with a buggy game.

Even if we are... user mods FTW!

Just look at what came out for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Neverwinter Nights. Fallout 3 has an equally large, but way more rabid, fan community. There will be mods. Oh yes, there will be mods.

    Pardon the drool.

I appreciate that there are many that love them, but never been a big fan of Mods. They usually don't last long on my computer.

But I'm weird, I rarely even rebind keyboard commands.

I don't know, I've played both console and PC iterations of Oblivion, and they did a good job of putting them together. Neither said 'port' to me. Personally, I never got to play Fallout Tactics, which is the sort of game that really appeals to me, so I'm hoping I can truly enjou Fallout 3.
