RSS.exe causing CPU to go to 100% and shut down eventually

My computer has been shutting down unexpectedly on a few occassions. I did a bit of investigation and noticed my CPU cores were all running at 100% and the temperature was rising. I checked task manager and a programme called RSS.exe was using all of my CPU power. I stopped the task and my CPU recovered to normal levels.

Can I get rid of this programme? I think it is essential for Windows to run though. I found out that it does this:

rss.exe plays a key role in the Windows operating system. rss.exe is a vital process which executes dll files and locates their libraries into windows system's memory. If rss.exe error occurs on your PC then the whole system would run unstably and be quite slow.

Process rss.exe is located in the system directory: C: windows/system32. If the rss.exe process executes and runs from any other suspicious locations, it may be caused by Trojan virus, and then youd better fully scan your computer with an anti-virus program.

I scanned my C drive using latest Superantispyware and deleted 7 instances of PUP.bProtector. I haven't done a full scan using AVG yet though.
