Each time a program is accessed on the computer a box pops up and the top says run as and you have to put in a password in order to run a program. I can't seem to eliminate this any help is appreciated

I do not want to have to put in a password each and every time I want to run a program.

There are only two profiles on the computer and both have admin access. I can run all programs I just have to put in a password to do so. I don't want to have to use a password each and every time.

Has another administrator perhaps put restrictions on these files? To check:

    1. Right click a file that generates the password pop-up
    2. Select 'Properties'
    3. Select the 'Security' tab

Check that the name of the profile has appropriate permissions (you can also press the 'advanced' button for more details/permissions)

All programs do this I can't even get into items on the control panel without inputting the password.

I tried right clicking and going to properties I couldn't find a program with security as a tab.

Well, if you're 100% sure the profile is an administrator, then I would have to recommend you to the malware removal thread. It sounds almost as if something is trying to steal your administrative passwords....

Mada_Milty has a point.... may be malware, but you need to contact your friend and get the administrator password .... that way you can access the files and change the log in and security settings .... and start checking it for virus's and spyware.

I thought it was some form of malware as well however I ran all the steps over there and came up clean.

I do have the password to get into the admin account and I can get into all the programs with these passwords however its just plain annoying to have to use a password for each and every program.

Then, if it's ok with your friend, go to administrative tools and click on computer management and then local users and groups, then users .... go to right pane and on each of the users that you are having problems with , reset their access priviledges.

The security tab is in XP PRO. Not home.

Though, if memory serves me (rarely), you can access the security tab, via safe mode with the local admin account (administrator).

On the run as portion, the following MAY help:

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (download and run #111)
    Direct link: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/runaswhichuser.reg

    Click yes on the popup.

Just noticed that you reported the ram as 502 ..... is some of your ram being used for the video card .... cause it should be 512, which might mean you got some bad ram...though I'm not sure how that would relate to the problem at hadn.

not sure either I posted the ram as it appears when I run CCleaner don't know what would cause that.

Also I don't think i've mentioned before each time at startup it asks if I want to start system restore and counts down from 3..2..1

Right click on My Computer and choose properties .... what does it report the ram as?
You may have to go in and remove one stick at a time and see what it reports inorder to find the bad stick.
Bad ram can cause all sorts of wierd stuff....

ok sorry hadn't had time to check the puter thanks again for the input. The RAM is showing as 504 when I right click on properties.

It is not bad ram. Typically, most Bios will use a portion of your ram, as video ram.

    I have 3 x 512, which windows sees as 1.5 (which is actually 1536)

Just to double check you are indeed admin:

Click START, then RUN, then type in CMD (press enter)

    net user %username%

Near the end, you should have:

    Local Group Memberships *Administrators
