Hi,while trying to defrag my 'c" drive in windows xp---a message popped up stating"a scheduled "Chkdsk/f on drive c must be run".
    How do i run it?
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO RESPOND

Are you going in to start>accessories>system tools and clicking the button to "analyze" the disk to decide if you need to defrag (using Windows Interface)?

OR are you using the command prompt yourself and typing in defrag...?

Just curious which way you're going about it. Also, was there a problem and you're trying to defrag or you're just doing it because the analysis said to or you think it needs it.

I've run chkdsk before -- I'll wait til you answer these tho

    minor correction

then click on "sharing and security" :)

I've never done it this way and I was going to recommend another method...using Windows XP Recovery Console (if you have the installation CD) -- if you hit start, run, and type in "chkdsk" (without the quotes) the command prompt starts and your computer will do some things...but that's not telling it to chkdsk /f. I had to do that after one of my (many) crashes and I used the CD-rom.

Let us know how xflat's way worked for you.

Apparently, windows xp has a preset schedule to run CHECKDISC after a preset time period. It won`t let me defrag until it runs checkdisc first.
