OK. Windows XP, when you hit START, then RUN, can anyone give me a list and the uses of the commands available for RUN? I have had some given over the phone here and there when trying to fix stuff, but I can't remember what they are. Thanks

Adrynalyne, by any chance, would you have a sortable copy of those commands. Say, in Excel format? I would like to re-arrange them for various reasons. Bazza

Sorry, no. I 'stole' em from an MS internal tech write up before I left. They were in a similar format to what you see here.

Damn, :p thanks anyhow. Lots of typing for a 2 fingered keyboarder. Another project for the TO DO list. Gotta install XP Pro first. Bazza

Bazza, attached is a zipped up Excel spreadsheet - very simple to do and no typing required.

Nice list, except you don't really need to enter the executable. (.exe)

    Which is a given.

As I said before, its not my list.

If you want to be anal about it, typing .exe technically allows the system to execute the command faster, as it doesn't have to cycle through .com, etc before finding the file.

Not that the difference is discernable to any human eye.

    Why is it being anal?

The whole idea of run commands is to save time, so it's pointless and kinda defeats the purpose typing in ".exe" when it's not required.

You may as well type in the whole path.

    Are you for real?

I fail to see how typing conf.exe is the same or even similar to typing C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\conf.exe.

At any rate, if you don't like the list, don't use it. No point in arguing over irrelevant BS when its a list I copied and pasted, not created myself.

Sorry, I am not about to go and edit out every .exe from that list.

If you want to, feel free.

Whether I like the list or not is irrelevant. You posted information and I corrected it.

You keep protesting that it's not your list, if that is so, then don't vehemently defend it.

As I said, typing in .exe is pointless and defeatist.

You however, seem to think it's okay or defensible.

I posted that as information to help others.

You seem to have taken it personally, although you keep saying it's not your list.

I can link countless other posts where you seem to find inconsistencies in others and enjoy proof reading, yet it's not acceptable now?

    Are you for real?

    Thanks Adrynalyne.
That is exactly what I needed. When you need the list, and you can't find it, I am more than happy to take the time to type in the .exe.
    I am gratefull. Cheers

Glad you enjoyed the list. It was the only useful thing I took from my job before I left, other than various utilities MS has since stopped providing to the public ;)

I would have never been motivated enough to compile such a thing.

As for Maxwell, hats off to ya. Once again, I am far too lazy to put together such a thing :p
