I hope this is the right place to post this. If not I'm sorry in advance. Ok for the problem. When I start up my computer I keep getting this error:

Runner File Name(Updates from HP.exe) lacks a (the appid separator)

It just popped up on my computer today. I have never seen it before.

Did you run a spyware scan before this message appeared?

If the scan found "Backweb" which is used by many well known companies like HP, Kodak as the basis for the auto updates to software, then deleting this can give you that message... best way to get rid of it is to use a registry cleaning app like Regcleaner once installed and run goto Startups and remove HP.exe ( Regcleaner produces a backup of everthing it deletes so they can be restored if need be )

Personally the only apps I have auto update are my AV and Spyware applications.. things like printers which put all sorts in your startup to check for updates are rarely updated and can be done manually.

Yes I doid do a spyware scan and this error popped up after. I just installed and ran regcleaner bu HP.exe was not in the start ups list or any other list. Thanks for your help though. Might you have another suggestion? Thanks.

if you can post a screenshot of your startups that would help narrow them down.... you could use Regcleaners startup page for that.

Not sure what you mean by screenshot. Does this help?

yeah that will do nicely.... the ones belonging to HPs updates are these and one or all could be your culprit,

HKEY_LM\Run HP Digital Imaging Monitor, N/A, Start Menu (Common User)
    HPHmon06, C:\WINDOWS\system32\hphmon06.exe,

    HKEY_LM\Run Hphupd06, C:\Program Files\HP\{AAC4FC36-8F89-4587-8DD3-EBC57C83374D}\hphupd06.exe,

    HKEY_LM\Run Hpsysdrv, C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe

have Regcleaner delete them ( they are backed up so you can restore them if need be ) then reboot and see if same error exists.

Click START, RUN, type in MSCONFIG hit enter.

Select the "Selective Startup" radial button.

    Uncheck "Load startup Items"

    Hit, okay, then reboot.

Do you still get the error?

If not, a list of what those startup items are, would be nice....

I didn't get the error this time. Now the silly ?. How do I get a list of startup items?

    Go back into msconfig

Click the Startup Tab (near the top) You will see a list of "unchecked" startup items.

One of two things you can do. The tedious way, or the lotsa typing way. ;)

The tedious way is check one box and then hit okay and reboot. If everything is okay, then go back into msconfig, and check another. Repeat, and rinse. Once you find the entry that gives you the error, tell us.

The long typing way is to list all those entries for us. :(

I found it. Here it is. C:\PROGRA~1\UPDAT...common startup. :D

Well, if you have found it, just keep it unchecked, and you should be fine!

Also, what you put "C:\PROGRA~1\UPDAT..." is unknown to me....but....

With msconfig open, at the startup tab, if you scroll (that bar at the bottom, move it far to the right). to the right, you whould see the ...

now move your mouse next to that up arrow looking thing. Then move to just the left of the location....Once you see something that looks like this ---> <|> (not exactly like this, but your cursor should change to something like this) left click and drag your mouse to the right. This should revial the location of the problem you are having. Post that here.

Or just forget it, and check everything, except for that which causes your error..... :)
