I have my second computer givin me some heat problems... its nothin super heres the specs:

    Compaq Presario S3000NX
    AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67GHz
    512MB of generic PC2100
    40gb Western Digital HD
    48x CD Burner

It has two fans... the cpu fan and the rear fan. Its a very quiet pc so the fans run super slow... the temps idle are about 54C and im not sure the load temps because I am using the bios to check since its too hard to get it in like MBM...

Also, I have been having some issues with the computer going really slow. Just bringing up firefox took up to 15 secs... i have a wireless connection that is very fast and seems to be lacking speed on the pc. I was wondering if the heat was causing that.

Also I had an idea to cool it. I currently do this with my graphics card... I take a blower and point the exhaust to the heatsink and it seems to cool it down. Wondering if this was a good idea....

Not willing to spend that much since its just a basic pc...
i have AS5 on it but i dont think i did a really good job putting it on so that may be the problem...

AMD design is a front case fan, a rear case fan and of course your heatsink fan. Anything else is overkill and could risk improper cooling. While a newer machine is different, an 2000+ should easily cool this way.

The AS5 has a settling period of upto 200hrs before you may achieve optimum differences.

Did you go to there website and follow the instructions carefully?!?

I'm no expert but tech in shops have told me that poor application or too much can sometimes lead to just as many problems as a poor thermal interface. By the way did you suck or blow the crud from the heatsink while you had it off? Can make a difference.

As far as monitoring temps have you tried EVEREST Home:

    Hope this helps.

are you guys sure everest has the temps right?? because in my bios it says the temps are 54C load but everest says 22C....
everthing definatly feels hotter than that...

I seriously doubt that your AMD, with only 1 case fan and a CPU fan is running at 22C...underload, no less. Follow the suggestion given and add another case fan. Have one intake (front) and one exhaust (rear) and see if that doesn't make a difference. Also, the other suggestions of proper application of the thermal compound and cleaning the heatsink are quite valid also. Try those 3 suggestions and post back with the results.

Yes I agree 22C sounds wrong I cant confirm or deny EVEREST but on my sys the temps in BIOS & EVEREST are very similar (1-2C variation). Not sure what is going on there. I placed a front intake fan in my case two weeks ago. Cost AU$6 and about 1/2 hour work, quite easy.

Have you checked your CPU load? you can do this in the task manager, Maybe some kind of unwanted program uses your entire cpu, which causes heat and low system performance.
