OK I randomly thought about having 2 PCI soundcards installed - would it work? would this mean that you could hook up even more speakers to your cpu??!!!

yes, it's possible. i've seen many many people put 2 sound cards in a system and have them both work, you won't be able to use them both at the same time unless one has asio (like the emu line). basically, windows can only send a wave output to one soundcard at a time, so if you have, say, an audigy2 and an emu0404, you will only be able to output to one sound card at a time. BUT, (this is the confusing part) if you use asio output on the emu0404 for music, you will be able to use the 0404 for music and the audigy2 for games without switching from one sound card to the other.

for an explanation of asio... uh.. google it. it's basically like direct input from a keyboard vs a windows buffered sendkey. that's about the extent of my knowledge of it.

it IS possible, but not ideal. like, you CAN play two different songs at once with two sound cards, but one of them has to support asio (which is just a different output method of waveaudio). i believe the audigy's don't support asio the way anyone would use it.
