Some more info would help. What size are your HDD's? Have you looked at Disk Management (within Windows)??

You might have a log file thats growing out of control. Have you ever used bootvis to make your PC start faster?

when i say fix it i mean click on the bubble and it deletes temporary IE files. and no ive never used bootvis. and something is obviously taking over my hard drive (local disk C)

theres really too much information missing here to give good advice.. maybe run a scan with Everest fre edition 2.20 and post the log file.. sounds to me like you have filled your hard drive and when you clicked the message to delete temp files it has just filled back up again..

if thats the case the a temporary solution would be to kep your temp file folder cleaned out.. you shoudl be able to restrict how much space IE uses for caching by opening IE and going to tool and clicking internet options.. under the general tab you shoud see browsing history.. click its settings button.. there look for amount of disk space to use.. i believe in XP its a slider bar.. in vista is a text entry box... you can set this down to 1 MB so that you have that much more room...

but again that is only a temporary fix.. the warning messge will come back.. best thing to do would be to move some stuff to cd's or to an external hard drive and delete things off your main hard drive..

keep us up to date on how things are working out.. i for one would like to know.. xD

i dont know because i delete the IE temp files and then like 2 minutes l8r it pops back up. i then delete some programs but it still keeps popping up. im supposed to have a minimum of 200 mb. but i have less than that and then i delete some stuff and it has more than 200 mb then in a couple of minutes i dont. should i just send u a log file using hijackthis?

  10. SomeCrazyStuff

    SomeCrazyStuff Private E-2

wait a minimum of 200 MB? you talkin about your Hard drive? or the temp internet files cache size?

well you can send a log file and ill look at it but im no expert by any means and am not sure what to look for.. or if HJT will even show what info we would need.. but yes post that and maybe someone can help out with it...

Low Disk space bubble warning is telling you your HardDrive is almost full. Deleting temporary internet files won't do much since these are a tiny amount of your HD space. So it makes sense that a few minutes later you get the bubble warning again--you haven't freed up enough space.

Go to My Computer and rgiht-click C: drive and tell us capacity and used space.

    *****
You can try WinDirStat http://windirstat.info/wds_current_setup.exe to get a graphical depiction of your HD to find out what is taking up space. Click on the largest blocks to find out what is taking up the most space.

Please DL and run CCleaner, this will rid you of temp and crap files , DO NOT aimlessly delete files as this will cause greater issues.

Right click on "My Computer" will give you the manage option. Please provide your current % so we can provide greater advice!

Good advice! I was advising to see which large files you recognize and could decide whether you want to keep. I, personally, have found 3 copies of vacation photo directories I had backed up in different places to be sure they wouldn't get lost. I had written them to disk ages ago and didn't realize they were still on my HD.

If there is a strange large file let us advise if it is an important SYSTEM file or something else. WinDirStat helped me find a 4gb log file I had no idea a program was keeping. It can be useful to quickly locate unusually large files.

ok there is something obviously in my computer eating my space...i have 11% left only because i just did that windirstat.

How big is your HD in gb? Win XP with Office and a few large programs uses about 10gb right off the bat. Recycle Bin will take 10% of your HD if you accept the default amount of space. Do you have a lot of movies, music or photos on disk?

If you have an 80gb drive with very few movies or music and only have 11% free than you have something wrong. Without knowing how big your HD is I can't really tell you how much space you should be looking for.

i currently have 5.9gb. the total size is 51.1gb
also if u can help me with my other problem in my other thread called "pop up ads"

What did you find in WinDirStat? I would add up Program Files+Windows+<Files> and see if it equals between 10-15gb [use the >Size column for the numbers to add up]. Mine in the pic below=8gb (although I reformatted last month so this is small).

If you click the + by Docs and Settings how much space is your UserName using? [again the number in the >size column]

thx for posting the HJT log.. but in the future know that instead of copy and pasting it.. save the file to your desktop when it opens it for you and upload the entire file as an attachment... that way the forum topic is easier to navigate..

as far as programs go look through your add/remove programs list and delete any that you do not use.. ones to include would be those toolbars.. i see you have several different toolbars installed.. downloading toolbars isnt a good idea as they usually come with malware...

google desktop is probably not needed

norton 360.. wow.. this is just personal experience.. but norton 360 has never acted right for me.. i have only had it to slow computers down and actually have seen it waste space... if you havent paid for it i would suggest removing it and putting on something like zonealarm or eset's nod32 security suite... both are great in my opinion...

again google toolbar isnt needed.. and the windows live messenger unless you heavily use it could probably be taken off as well as msn messenge if you have that installed as well.. which it appears that you do... google desktop manager and google update can go..

now if you dont mind could you provide a link to your other post? you mentioned pop ups.. it may be that your computer is infected with malware of somekind.. in that case you ought to post in the malware forum and follow the experts advice.. in the malware forum only the moderators that have been approved as malware experts are allowed to post.. so you will be getting professional advice.. they recently helped me clean up a laptop for a friend of mine.. and did a wonderful job at it...

i would again suggest you look at your add/remove programs list and remove any programs you dont use.. however if you dont know what something is DO NOT do anything to it... if you accidentally remove the wrong components then you risk further problems.. you can get to add remove programs list by going to start.. click on my computer.. then in the menu bar to the very left of the window click add/remove programs... this will open a new window and will list "all" of the programs on your computer..

also i agree with sach2.. if you could take a screenshot of the WinDirStat and let us know what all you find out from it that would help tremendously..

hmm.. looks like about half of your hard drive is devoted to music and movies.. maybe its time to go save some of that to cds and delete it from your computer...

yea chaslang will take care of your popup problems.. he has helped me with a couple of things before and did a wonderful job at it... try gettin rid of some of that music and movies and see if you still get the low disk space warnings

Yes, you gonna have to think about burning some of those media files to CD/DVD. I don't see anything unusual about the size of the Windows related files.

Two things that might be helpful:

    1) Right click "My Computer" and on the System Restore tab you could lower the percentage of space to use for drive C:. If it is the default 12% it is reserving 6gb for restore points. You could change this to 6% or 7% and reclaim 3gb.

    2) To get rid of the Low Disk warning. Go HERE, scroll down to #65 and right click and select "Save link as" and put the file on your desktop. Then right-click the file and select "Merge". It will disable the balloon popup warning. Of course, you will still have to keep an eye on how much free space you have on C:.
