Here is another link for ID process, are they necassary and how to disable (unnessary):

This tool is exceptional for process ID and runs circles around standard task manager with a google link to explore what processes you have running:

Goto say Clark you have a very streamlined running system with only 24 processes hope you aren't compromising security! I have 34-35 (Windows doing auto update at the moment) but exceptional security; AV, Firewall, Wind Defened, Keylogger detector, Start-up monitor, Spyware Guard, Defrag, etc.

Becareful Clark don't make the system quick but compromise your security, just my 2c.

I have between 42 -45 processes running on my P4, 3.0E(Prescott) and loading and working very fast..
This could be a Ram problem if you are running 512 mb or less.

Have you tried Run/MSCONFIG/Startup then removing apps that you don't need to start up. Theres also a Registry page that has startups listed, I think its:
Local Machine/software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/RunOnce - You should double check this path, it may be off alittle and I don't have time to look it up. Good luck.

RAM is definately an important consideration.

No offence it doesn't matter how many you are running but how resource hungary individual processes are. For example Norton AV may use roughly 45-50K mem usage whereas NOD32 AV use only 19K, both apps serve the same purpose just one has a lot smaller footprint on memory resources and is a lot more efficient. This is the important thing you need to consider when assessing processess it is not the number you have running but how resource hungary each one is.

mcaffe is one such hungary product if you sort the processes by "Image Name" you will see that mcaffe has 6 different processes running. Bluntly mcaffe aint that good and is obviously VERY resource hungary for what it apparently does. Don't just take my opinion on this but have a search through google and the threads here, it is a very average product at best.

Don't need anything else anyway the first i do when i check a pc is how much process is running if i see MORE then 35 there is a problem because when you install a fresh install of XP you have 18 process running.....
