Runtime Error- HELP!

I keep recieving a Runtime Error Message!
Program Files/ Internet Explorer/exe. Abnormal Termination!
How do I get rid of this??

Well hello from a newbie.

I too am getting runtime error when I try to Open MS Word or MS Excel.
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

Runtime error

Programme:C\Programme Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe

The application has requested the application to terminate it in an unusual way."

I suspected a virus of some sort and have gone through all the suggested options on MajorGeek for cleaning up my system from AdAwareSE to HSRemove. Removed Java, installed Java. Installed, updated and ran the lot. Downloaded and registered with Opera and searched your site to see if others have similar problems.

I probably have the cleanest machine I ever had but still get runtime errors so have a couple of questions:

Do I just forget why it happened, uninstal MS Office and reinstal?
How do I get rid of Internet Explorer - it isn't listed in Control Panel\Add Remove progammes?

System info:
Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.60 ghZ, 384 mb ram
Running MS XP Professional, Version 2002 with Service pack2.
2 hard drives - 1 x 80 Gig, 1 x 20 Gig
The 20Gig hd I installed myself, when I say "installed" I removed the old one and plugged this one in. So I know it is there and I know it is 20Gb but my system shows it as 9gb, which was what the old one was.

Have Norton Internet Security 2005 (detecting W32 netsky in at least 2 emails a day!)
Don't do games.
Mostly use: Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Photoshop CS, Illustrator, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Outlook.

Hope this is enough information for someone to point me in the right direction.
