Runtime Error MMC71CHT.EXE

I have had this error for some time now and have tried to get some help with it in the malware forum and have now been directed to this forum.

This error appears as soon at start up:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:Windows\System32\MMC71CHT.EXE

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the applications support team for more information.

I cannot Locate the c:\Windows\system32\mmc71cht.exe file with Windows Explorer even with viewing of hidden & system files enabled.

This error has also appeared when i log off as a user which i dont normally do.
MMC71CHT.EXE.DLL application failed to initialise.

This MMC71CHT.EXE file is also trying to connect to the internet and is being blocked by my firewall. The report about htis says..

No idea what any of this means please assist me if you can!

 

Can you locate this mysterious file if you boot to DOS? Unfortunately I'm not clear as to what OS you are using.

 

i am operating on windows XP sp2 and sorry but i dont know how to find this file with Dos.

You might try using the Command Console to find MMC71CHT.EXE.
Click Start->Run then type CMD (either hit enter key or click OK)
The black background Command Console is now running.
type: dir /a C:\Windows\System32\MMC71CHT.EXE hit the enter key.
This will report the file size of MMC71CHT.EXE or else it will report File Not Found

 

i have tried this and it says it the system cannot find the file specified

 

have done what you suggested but still have the error message but it has changed to:
MMC71CHT.EXE
has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
if you were in the middle of something the information you were working on might be lost

 

You may need to do a search of the registry to see if the file is called up there. If it is - depending on exactly where it is - you might need to remove it.
