Runtime errors

While playing Gears of War I heard an error ping(?) and the cursor appeared in the center of the screen but I had no mouse control of the character. Right before that a C++ Runtime Library error popped up, so I downloaded the file and ran it.

When I downloaded the C++ file I noticed sp 1 2005 for C++, should I have used the sp 1 also?

OS- Vista 64 Ultimate

 

I've done some digging and read that Runtime Errors have something to do with the registry.

Is that actually true? If it is, the recommended solution is to run a registry repair program.

How reliable is this information?

runtime errors are generated from software programs.

you can isolate the program by process of elimination.

go to start/run type in msconfig
click the startup tab and disable all entries
reboot
play gears of war to see if the problem reoccurs
if no go, return to msconfig, add checks back to half the entries
reboot
if no luck, try the other half...

I appreciate your help, I'll hold on to this solution because I "seem" to have fixed the problem, for now, by running a regcleaner.

I started GoW at the point where the problem started and I've gotten past that point without the error message.

BTW: your work around is right on point with what I've been seeing on the net.
