Hey Guys, Firstly Thanks In advance

    Secondly heres the Problem.

A Client just contacted me explaining that there Samsung LAptop has been Receiving the SMART error. He followed to explain that he had taken the laptop into a repair place already which he carries out a service agreement with, they issued a new HDD and still it gets the same error, The Repair place has told him the Laptop is dead and not fixable.

    I disagree.

Generally i jsut want to get your opinions on the matter.

What is your experience with SMART, and have you ever had any similar problems.

What do you feel could be causing this (its strange that it appears on two new hdds)

From what the Client has said to me every thing still points down to failing HDD (he said the little busy light *lol* is constantly flashing)

When the Laptop is fully booted it becomes slow and a struggle to use

My general opinion is still that it must be either the HDD or a Motherboard problem

Now as i work on a no fix no fee basis. Id rather not touch the Motherboard if i dont have to.

any help in resolving this matter willl be greatly worshipped!!!

    Cheers

It may be worth checking the BIOS settings, I've come across this before.

    thanks for the fast reply...

What would I be looking for within the bios, obviously we have the option to disable the smart utility, unfortunatly that wouldn't explain why the computer still becomes laggy.

The computer has apparently had a fresh copy of winows 7 on it, and nothing else installed since. I'm wondering if the original repair guy has a batch of faulty hdds . Maybe they were dropped during deliver or something?

Its a horrible error as there is little that you can do to check or repair it, mite see if I can flash the bios with and update when I get it and see the results, my other idea for repairs are also strip the hdd and run seatools externally, then try a few hdds I have lieing about, if still failing run some memory tests, and if still same problem perhaps resetting the board, but then that would mean getting to the motherboard.

    What do youu think.

Some more advice on the bios options would be good aswell

    Regards

Hmmm, I was guessing that maybe SMART and LBA wasn't enabled but it looks like you have that covered. Flashing the BIOS couldn't hurt, and running seatools is a good idea.

Could you post the actual model of laptop etc and I'll do some research.
