s-video and composite capture software

hi everyone.. i have a "StarTech SVID2USB2 USB S-Video and Composite Video Capture Cable" and the software that comes with it is old and not very good, "Presto! VideoWorks 6". ultimately i'm trying to figure out how to capture with virtualdub but so far either i'm doing something wrong or it has issues finding my device it's so sad this program isn't being updated anymore it's aways been awesome and still is for most of what i do. so i thought to ask here.. i'd like to find a program to capture s-video and composite.. free would be great and not because it's "free", free because usually the developer is passionate about what he/she is working on but it doesn't have to be free, anything is fine as long as it works well i don't mind trying a few trial versions to find a program i like so please if anyone knows of something you've had success with suggest away.

 

Knowing your OS and maybe some basic computer specs would help. Assuming a Windows OS the section you're looking for is http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?id=32&sort=0 with Virtual VCR and Virtual Dub looking promising, but I haven't used either one.

 

HA my bad i musta forgot to mention.. but yes i'm on a windows 7 and vista machine. i would love to use virtualdub because i use it so often for just about eveything i do but i just can't seem to get it to recognize my device, i even tried virtualdubmod, it's no longer developed either i don't think but when i tried it i actually got a BSOD and i haven't got one of those since i was on xp haha it could actually be the device itself tho because getting the drivers to work properly was a kinda task in itself. thanks for the suggestion anyway.
