Yeah switched all 3 of my boxes from Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu to Sabayon a few weeks ago. So far I have been very happy with it, Running the 64bit version on my dual core and core2duo machines with no problems and 32 bit on my other boxes. The good thing about the 64bit version is that it comes preinstalled with all the libs you need to run 32bit apps if required, IE emerged the 32bit firefox with no problems flash and java working fine. And the included Beryl looks pretty cool

I am assuming this is free. I am running PClinux OS for my basic little webserver I have apache setup on it and configured serving a basic web site for the noobs a school to download tutorials from. I might try it though I have another test box i load various linux distros on to try out. Anyone tried Ulteo yet? I liked it.

Yeah, I'm assuming you are running Beryl 0.12?

    0.14 is even nicer :)

I'm running the 64 bit version too. I'm using SwiftFox over firefox though :)

The hardware support in Sabayon is impressive, to say the least.

Ulteo is based off of a mix of Ubuntu and Debian. Its fairly new. Anyone know any thing similar to PCLinux OS?

running 0.13 on the two 64bit machines, haven't bothered upgrading 32 bits from 0.12 don't really use them much anymore The 32's are pretty much just used for different DC projects so Beryl is off most of the time

Still waiting on the CD my test box has no DVD rom ( i know shame on me). Let me know when it comes out on CD or i just might have to stop being lazy and hunt down a dvd rom laying around.

Yeah hardware support is great, only problem I had was the live cd booting to a blank screen on one of my 32 bit boxes, kdm wasn't starting, started it in interactive boot mode and started all processes manually during boot and the rest of the install went fine. I have boxes running ATI cards Nvidia cards and a couple with intel integrated graphics and didn't have to reconfigure any settings in any of them. All installed with their default max resolutions even the wide screen lappy running 1280x800

you can get it on cd now. I will find the link and post it. cd still comes with everything you need and the beryl 3d environment, but only comes with KDE and fluxbox, didn't bother me as I always run KDE anyhow. DVD comes with about 6 different desktop environments.
    Anyhow linky coming soon

3.26 due out tomorrow, you might want to wait and see if they release a LiveCD of that ;)

I read the reviews (DistroWatch) and it sounds great...but, I understand it includes even the kitchen sink. Can anyone tell me how much space it will require on a partition. Has anyone tried Sabayon Lite?

I downloaded the 32 bit mini edition through Bit Comet on my M$ box, burned the iso and booted on my test box. Was not really impressed I remember someone saying something about a live CD? I will even settle with a quick how to on how to get this up and running. Sabayon does not have the live dvd there either so. I would really like to get this up and going.

The mini edition is the LiveCD.

    Its pretty straightforward.

Boot to the LiveOS, update installer, start installation.

Set language, partitioning, boot manager (default is usually ok), and default Windows manager.

    It does the rest.

Downloaded the 64Bit DVD. Tried to load it; tried "gui" and "console" and some of the other options - kept getting "out of range" on my monitor. I thought I had a bad dvd until I tried the "console" startup. Got to the console prompt, entered <startx> and got the "out of range" again.

Is there a boot option I can use that will cause sabayan to use lower freq/resolutiion display params?.

Yeah, check their forum. I'll link the thread if I find it.

    http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sabayon_Linux#Boot_parameters

Press F5 at the CD/DVD menu for extra boot paramaters. Go alll the way to the end of the current ones and add:

Sabayon refresh= (enter your refresh rate)
Sabayon hsync= (your hsync range, for example, hsync=28-110)
    Sabayon res= (your desired resolution)

Hsync and refresh rates can be found from the monitor manual, or the manufacturer's website.

Try it with the keyword sabayon and without. The wiki says without, but its been my experience, you must add it.

I need to print this, but I need to get my other problem solved first
