Safe Mode Question

Hey Guys,

I have a serious problem. I placed my Dell computer in safe mode via msconfig and the computer boots up normally for safe mode. The problem is that when every I try to run a program the screen goes black for a second (minus the safemodes in each corner) and then a message comes up saying that you are in safe mode would you like to use system restore to revert back to an earlier time. I say no but the process just repeates itself. If I choose yes a new message suggests that system restore is not available.

Anyone no how I can at least get back to normal boot. I tried f8 and I get the option to boot normally but safe mode still boots?

This may be a silly question, but have you tried reverting to normal startup in msconfig? And what was the original problem for you to have to make a change like this, anyway?

 

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, but the same thing happens. I try to run msconfig but the same messages appears reminding me that I am in safemode and reverting to the desktop as if I never tried to run smconfig.

What about using system restore to bring up a point before you changed the startup type? Is it just .exe's that won't run? Will the system restore .msc work?

 

Hello to all those reading this.

I figured out the problem, I think. I was able to finally get system restore to work and it turns out that I selected selective start with safe mode not diagnostic. This does not answer why I was unable to initially get system restore to work.

I may have just been a little panicky as I have many times used safemode and have never encountered such a problem.
