Safe Mode Retstarting/Screen Disappears

    I am trying to get my Windows XP machine to run in Safe Mode so that I can complete all of the pre-HiJackThis steps. I can successfully boot into safe mode, but about every 10 secs the window pops up asking me if i want to run in Safe Mode. If I do not not answer, the window disappears as does the rest of my desktop. If i answer yes, it resets everyhting as if i had just logged on.

    Any suggestions?
