    Hi

Is there another way of entering safe mode other than pressing F8 at start up? I ask this as I cannot access safe mode in this manner, and I want to access that option that allows me to turn the computer back to the last setting when it was working properly.

Maybe, then it will let me use some of the programs that it used to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do a system restore without having to get into safe mode. Or is it some other issue that I am not getting?

You can get into safe mode by:

    Start>Run

    Type "msconfig" without quotes

Click on the BOOT.INI tab and place a check next to /SAFEMODE

Like TimW said, you dont have to go into Safe Mode to do a System Restore.

I don't know why some XP installations have trouble getting into Safe Mode using F8 but it is a common problem. But there can be a problem using the above method with msconfig.

If for some reason Safe Mode simply will not work on your computer you cannot get back into regular mode without some trouble including using recovery console to edit boot.ini to remove the save mode switch. I've seen this happen to people in the past including myself.

If you want to use that method I would install recovery console as a boot option before using msconfig to force SafeMode. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

    Hi

System Restore is not working properly, even though it is turned on.

In short, my computer suffers from permanent PMT, but in safe mode I was hoping to try to restore my computer back to a time when it worked properly, then maybe I can access Outlook once more and be able to use the calendar to invoice clients I have done work for :confused
