Would this be a safe way to open a port?

I am looking to open a port on a friend's router so that I may help him via remote assistance. Would it be safe to forward that port to a PC ie(192.168.1.333), then set his internal IP as (192.168.1.102) when he does not need help and then set it as (192.168.1.333) when he needs help.

    Is this safe?

I don't see the harm. I've done that to close ports on routers that have *cough* buggy firmware that leaves ports open.

    But I'm no security expert.

Why not just stop forwarding the port when he isn't using it?

That seems like a better idea to me.

333 is not within IP numbers. 255 max.

If he needs to change setting to achieve this, you might as well teach him how to open and close ports.

do you guys know what the port is for remote assistance?

Also, does he just have to forward all request from that port to his PC?

0 is not an ip, its a network ID. So no reason to stay away from 0, it isn't an IP ;)
