salavaging a laptop

my dad asked me if it was possible to turn a laptop screen into a monitor now i have no problem taking apart laptops all the ones ive bought came to me broken and i fixed them, he bought this one for me for college and it came doa

crack on the bottom no startup power issue. he was more interestd in me turning the screen into a monitor and links to guides or whether its possible would help. im mostly dead on rewiring being colorblind and the such

you need a converter board that costs as much or even more than a retail LCD monitor ... if you can get it working you can use the whole thing as a second monitor with somehting like this: http://www.maxivista.com/
