Same XP Windows Update repeatedly (KB2446704)

    KB2446704 (security update)

    I have been receiving this update from Windows repeatedly over the last few days. Pretty much every time I boot up the PC it'll ask not long after it.

    I've Goggled for a resolution and searched here but have not been able to resolve it.

    Has anyone come across this problem and was able to stop it permanently?

    It has to do with .NET framework. To word it nicely, .NET framework is a mess.

    You can read through this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB976982#top
    or go to windows update, find the update, click the + in front of it and mark it to not offer you this one again. I had to do that to one of the .NET updates.

    Thanks for both the replies.

    I did that already but thought there might have been a 'cleaner' way of getting rid of it. What happens to the other (multiple) downloads from previous days? Can I find these somewhere and delete them too?

    I don't have auto update turned on so I'm not sure where MS stores the downloaded updates in your computer. If it is in a tmp or temp folder, deleting anything in there should get rid of them.
    This might be it, but I can't check
    It's worth a look there.

    I have a WUTemp folder below my windows folder on C:. It's empty; check if yours has anything in it.
