Samsung autobackup files

Hey Geeks!

I have a small problem, if not a stupidity of my own!
I have a samsung 1 Tb portable disk (I think S2), that comes with the samsung auto backup program. On my old computer I backed-up my music files on the disk with no problem. Now comes the problem

I had to go on a businesstrip and wanted to have my music on my laptop, so in a hurry I COPIED the files from the external disk directly, instead of installing the back up program and restoring the back up files from the disk, as I was supposed to do.

You can already feel it coming, the files on my laptop won't load, neither on windows media player nor VLC player. (even the album art can't in, for instance, paint). Is there a way to "restore" the files on my desktop?
I already tried installing the samsung auto backup, but I get an error message that the program could not find the samsung external drive (I could expect that but if you never try you never win right!).
