Good evening, my first thread although i have used the forums over the years to find some nifty solutions - so apologies in advance if i am a little noobish ;)

I am running Vista on a Samsung R60Plus Laptop. It is 3 years old and until this week it has been pretty good to me. It began a few days ago, i leave it downloading a torrent, some music on or anything really, it seems to freeze - the screen is still, mouse pointer exactly where it was - but frozen.

I am forced to hold in the power button and reboot it. Never have any blue screen messages, it just reboots as normal and is then fine.

Now, i thought it might have been all the programs i've installed over the years (There have been alot!) so i backed up all my stuff, reformatted it, reinstalled Vista. This was long overdue anyway - but unfortunately did not solve the issue.

I read a few forums and someone suggested that it might be the RAM - to remove and clean the ends, i did this, still same issue. I also was told to try update the BIOS, which i have done from the Samsung website. Issue persists.

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66Ghz, 2 meg ram.

I have not had this issue before it litterrally happened in the last 5-7 days and in case it makes a difference - it ALSO had a problem "Hibernating" as well. I used to always Hibernate it instead of rebooting, but now it just hangs 2/3 times when i try to hibernate it. (This was why it was siggested to check the Ram due to the hibernation issue).

I don't think it is overheating, the fan is cooling well, it is not overheating and seems to respond to opening more programs/apps and increasing the fan speeds etc so it responds well.

I would be greatful for any help offered ... thanks in advance,

    Nealos.

When you reinstalled your OS, did you restore all your files and settings?

If you did, I would try that format and reinstall again, but this time, don't restore anything and see if the problem happens again.

Thanks for your swift reply - i usually have a backup file on my d: but in this case i actually wanted to increase the partition on the C: so i deleted everything - i had all my important stuff backed up anyway - so it was a clean installation.
