My new(3 months old)Samsung NF 210 worked fine until now.The battery was run down(not sure this matters).I charged fully and tried booting. It did,but shortly after while clicking on any item(e.g.Windows update,or any other),it shut itself off "midstream"while doing updates!Since than I tried booting several time(with or without the battery)and it always shut itself off after a few minutes, while showing completely wrong date(Jan.1,2001).It has a two year extra warranty, but was purchased in Vancouver,Canada and the owner (my girlfriend actually)lives in Budapest,Hungary and we worry that they may not honor the warranty here.Would any of you experts have an idea what is going on?We would really appreciate an opinion! Many thanks!

cmos battery must be dying, as a wrong date usually points to this
If you can get into the bios (setup pages0 by pressing either f2, or, delete, usually immediately it starts up, you can alter the date, and correct it-( this may only work, temporarily.)- then press f10 to save to cmos, and click on yes, and it should reboot into windows- now, you need to keep the power supply connected.
If it still shuts off, it is possible to recharge the cmos battery, over a 24 hour period (sometimes , even 12 hours, by keeping power supply plugged in , and battery fully charged.
I would say that the laptop has been left with a flat battery for quite a time, and this may have accelerated the cmos battery losing its charge.
If it is 3 months old, it should be covered by the warrenty, but sometimes these things are in the shop a year, or, more, and may even be a showroom peice.
Try your warrenty , if this does not work- as it should not go wrong this quick, and as you have extended warrety, ...... But, if your girlfriend bought it, she may have to make any claim

The manufacturers warrenty should cover the purchaser- no matter where you live- its a mobile machine for jst that purpose- to move with it- I should not think you will have a problem with the manufacturer, as long as you have the sales invoice, and documents.

Thank you so much for your kindness replying to our problem. We were just two hours from taking it to a repair shop.Instead we connected the netbook to electric outlet and will leave it for 24 hrs.
Your diagnosis was 100% correct. The machine was left unplugged for some time and the battery was completely run down when we tried to use it again.
I am very much obliged and grateful for experts like you,who are always there to help(not to mention the FORUM!!!!).
I am a simple user and need a lot of help sometimes.Am retired and a late comer to computing-so is my girlfriend.
Best wishes and regards and thanks again,
