As the title says I am having probs with video play back when using FGLRX driver all the desk top effects work flawlessly but video has tearing and is jerky and resize player screen is very unresponsive also high cpu spikes but when I switch to the default driver video plays perfect but I loose all desktop effects.

Is there a way to fix this?

I had this problem too. what you do is update Linux fully and then you got to install certain packages that don't install when the OS is installed. Since Linux is open-source and the code to play videos is copyrighted, Linux isn't allowed to install these codes with the OS. Use this website for any linux problems. it works fantastically.

    Thx for the reply.
I have been messing with in the last few days and I got the problem to diminish a great deal but its still their now all I have is some video tearing.

When I had poted this prob I should of said I already installed all the codec packages and repositories for them (my bad)

I did notice that the restricted driver that ubuntu recommended in the hardware section was at 9.3 so I downloaded the 9.10 and used the sh command and installed it and it helped allot but like I said tearing is still a problem
I can only assume its a driver issue of some sort because my laptop(dv6707us) runs perfect with its Nvidia on-board NVIDIA GeForce 7150M with basically the same OS and settings (AMD64 9.04) and is considerable weaker than my desktop.

So if you can give me a heads up like this is as good as its going to get till ATI releases better drivers or their is some tweaking that needs to be done It would help allot
and thx for the link to the wiki will give it a read.

Firefox seams ok with the video (youtube etc.) its when I am viewing AVI , MKV, OGG etc. with the default video player or VLC player that I get tearing
