    Bout every time I load up Unreal Tournament 2004, someway through a game or sometimes in the menu, the game crashes and I get a "General Protection Fault. Here's a quote from it:

    "UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-02-15_17.02]

    OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
    CPU: AuthenticAMD Unknown processor @ 2550 MHz with 1023MB RAM
    Video: RADEON X850 Series (6525)

    General protection fault!

    History: GUIController::NativePreRender <- UInteractionMaster::MasterProcessPreRender <- FPlayerSceneNode::Render <- UGameEngine::Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Untitled <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 676F4C57 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free"

    This error happens about 50% of the time. If I don't get this error, then the game freezes for a min, I hear the fan on the card rev for a min (like when I boot up), then I get a message from my catalyst saying that my card stopped responding to my driver commands and that VPU recovery has reset my graphics card. Sometimes the VPU recovery can't save my computer and my whole damn computer just shuts down and reboots. This has happened a few times in other games too, so I don't think it's UTs fault. It's even happened while just surfin the web or doin stuff on the desktop. I've researched it online and found several other people have the same prob, but no solutions. I never had this prob until a week or two ago. I've tried different catalyst drivers, d/l'ed all of UTs patches, updating my mobo drivers, windows, UT, and my graphics card drivers (tried versions 4.8-5.4). Tried turning all my 3D settings to application preference, or turning them off. This is very frustrating, I didn't pay $600 for this thing so my games could crash after 20-30 mins or less, this is rediculous! So I'm coming here for a final prea for help. ANY help/input wouldbe very much appreciated! :(

    UT2k4 is very sensitive to cpu/gfx card O/Cs

    i put my 6800gt at stock speeds and my GPFs went away.

    Thanks a lot guys. I tried to edit my post, but it took longer than 5 mins, so it wouldn't let me or I would have added that I havn't been overclocking my CPU or my card. Yeah, I have a gigabye mobo with the nforce4 chipset, but I don't think I can reduce my bus speed cuz it's PCI Express. One thing that's wierd about my CPU speed though is that it clocks in at 2550 MHZ on that error and on an app. I have, when it's a 2.4 GHZ. I havn't intentionally did any OCing, but that's considerably faster that it should be, almost up to a FX-55s speed. Also, I don't think it's overheating either cuz I have 5 case fans that I can control and I turn'em all up when I'm gaming. I saw in another post online that someone ran their RAM in single channel mode and it stop their probs, but that's retarded, I shouldn't have to sacrifice that to get this friggin card to stop screwin up.

    its not your gfx card mate becuase both my 9800pro & my new GF nv6800gt does it if i leave any increase in RAMDAC speed on my card.

    Its ut2k4 itself. :)

    Then why does it also crash when I'm not even playing UT? I can just be playin around on the desktop, not even running any serius apps. and it just stops responding, then the VPU recovery console comes up and has to reset the card to keep it from locking up the whole computer.

    Update: I searched Atari forums and found that a bunch of people have the same prob, but can't find any1 with my card that has the prob so I dunno if it's the card yet. I found that it could me my RAM being faulty, so I d/l'ed an app. on the forum called Prime95 which does a "torture test" on your CPU, RAM and power supply. Well I ran the mode that tests the RAM the most and I get an error after almost 20 mins (supposed to run it for a few hours) that says something like "Error: received in 0.5, expected 0.4 or less." I have no idea what this is talking about, but I tested both Corsair 512 MB sticks of DDR 3200 (baught brand new as a pair) and it gets the same error on both. Is anyone sure what this means? Surely both sticks cant be bad, I've had them for a few months without a prob, running HL2, Far Cry, Halo, Doom 3, it even ran UT 2004 fine for a month or so, until I buy my own copy (friend installed his copy on mine at first), then it decides that it's gonna totally lock up my puter when I'm playing and screw with my graphics card and games. Can anyone else gimme some more insight here PLEASE!?
