Did you ever follow through with applying to vesid so you can get a college ed or technical training so you can get a full time job in a different field? Been looking for something similar here in FL but no luck so far:(...my thought has been that if my headaches get under control that even if I am laid up with my back I can still do the schooling as the majority of classes are available on-line for those that are disabled. Figure I can pursue a course of study that would allow me to have some type of home business doing graphic design or similar where it won't matter if I can get out of bed or not for a few days cuz of my back.:) Anyway..wondering how you made out with it.

Anyone else have thoughts on this or know of similar programs?

For those not familiar with vesid..it's a program through the NYS dept of labor that will subsidize and or pay completely (depending on family income from spouse, etc.) to educate you in pretty much any field with appropriate consideration given in the choice of field of study to your medical condition so that you can become financially independent once again with full time employment.

No sis I haven`t...but whatI have been doing is hanging drywall, building porch roofs, pouring basement floors. I can in no way see me sitting on my ass, doing whatever. As much as it hurts sometimes...I like the feel of tools in my hands. I suppose I`ll die destitute and hungry but, again, I build/fix/improve things, it`s all I know, and all I want, at least for now.

There are literally hundreds of jobs you could be trained for where you could still have the 'tools in your hands' as you say and be able to work full time without so much difficulty but that's neither here nor there b/c I'm looking not just at the now but down the road.

I am physically incapable of going back to the physical, often strenuous work I used to do and loved so much. I can't go to a 'sit on my ass' job either because if I don't follow the pace my body tells me to follow when I get up I can't even get to the sitting part when I'm suppose to cuz I end up completely down instead. I often push myself, but I pay for it the next day, and the next day and the next...which in turn means I wouldn't be able to 'go' to a job consistently.

I had hoped you looked in to vesid or that someone here might know of similar programs so I could get some more ideas, etc. I don't have the contacts here that I had in NY...I just don't know enough people so that makes it tough. So far the only thing I've found around here is geared toward those under 21 and well, I'm just slightly beyond that! LOL

I need and want to figure something out so I guess that is where our goals are different. I pay my own way, always have, always will. Pig-headed? Stubbornness? Pride? Maybe all of that but that's me:D Chris and I share living expenses (a bit of a sore spot for him cuz he'd like nothing better than to take care of me in every way) but I won't have it any other way. We are not married and even if we were it would not change my need to pay my own way and besides, if God forbid something happened to him I would need to be prepared to handle things on my own anyway. I did it before so why should now be any different?

Anyway, there are a lot of companies around here who employ home workers but I won't get my foot in the door without some type of formal education in the field and my previous college courses don't fit the bill. If I don't get my foot in the door I won't increase my income, be able to have a savings or better medical benefits and possibly some type of retirement account. Medicare doesn't cut it for insurance and I feel like I'm wasting money paying my premium every month. The things I really need are not covered so I go without or it takes me forever to save up the money so I can get it. (Another sore spot with Chris:eek: my problem, I pay for it.)

I want to work full time, file a tax return, have good medical insurance and maybe even a savings account but most of all...be 'normal'...maybe I'm just being unrealistic wanting to be a productive member of society.:(
