    System is a Dell SPX 400 Pentium D Processor 820 2.8GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB with Dual Core
    Intel 945P chipset
There are 4 SATA connections and one IDE controller.
There are two DVD drives on the IDE and a 160 GIG SATA drive on the first SATA channel 0. Purchased a Syba Serial ATA / SATA to SBSATAD

Been trying to hook a WD 800 through the SATA to IDE adaptor on the drive.
The bio recognizes the WD 800 HD when it's first hooked up. When you exit the bios it gives a "No boot device available" message. If you enter bios setup again browse the settings and exit with no changes it boots to the SATA 0 HD and life is good. The 80 gig WD shows as drive F and is fully functional. If you do a restart or shut down it will not get past the No Boot Device message even going into setup and exiting unless you browse the settings before exiting.(Check if bios sees the WD800) If you put either DVD on the adaptor the results vary. The adaptor won't recognize the Philips DVD at all and the bio sees the Sony DVD with the adaptor but windows XP won't.
Yikes ! No idea what to do. There is no way to stop the RAID from looking for what it calls signed drives. Have tried different SATA channels with no change. This makes rebooting for installs tedious. The WD 800 only talks to the adaptor if it is selected as master as per the scant instructions.
    Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    Thanks Beno
