SATA and PATA drives connected at the same time

I am replacing my motherboard next week. I currently have my 3 CD/DVD drives and my primary hard drive connected via PATA cables. I have 2 SATA drives connected to an adaptec Raid card. The 2 SATA drives are not configured as raid, They are 2 independant drives, one for donloads and the other for my pictures.
Anyway...
The new motherboard I am getting has 2 PATA and 2 SATA ports. I am wanting to keep the CD/DVD drives and primary hard drive connected via PATA and I am wanting to connect my 2 SATA drives to the sata ports. Can I do this without any problems?

Here is a bit of info on the motherboard, Dont know if it makes any difference

CHIPSET:
North Bridge: SiS® 761GX
South Bridge: SiS® 965L

STORAGE
4 x Ultra DMA133/100/66 devices
2 x Serial ATA devices
RAID0 & RAID1 configuration

Also, Is the XFX GeForce 6800 Ultra (256mb) card any good??

 

Not very many SATA ports on that board. But you should have no problem, just don't try to setup a RAID!

As far as the card, it depends on what you want to do with the computer. You might want to shop around a bit for a GPU.

 

I will give it a try with a couple of empty sata drives Ive got 1st, Just to be on the safe side.

To be honest, I think the card is way over powered for what I use my computer for anyway. I dont use it for games, Well apart from the Sims, Winuae and mame. Ive got my PS3 and Wii for games. Ive been using this old donkey for years and it has always done what ive wanted it to.
